Well known retail great Tesco has plans for a biomass fuel operated import warehouse. The company is trying to go green and save money at the same time. There is a biomass power plant that is located in Teesport , England, which has a capability of two hundred and ninety five megawatts, and it creates biomass energy that Tesco will use to completely power their warehouse. The cost of construction for the power plant will be around eight hundred million dollars, and MGT Power will be the ones running the biomass plant. The plant will require close to two and a half metric tons of wood chips, and these will be sourced and purchased only from forestry operations in certain regions which are certified sustainable, which means that there are new trees planted to offset those harvested.
The use of biomass fuel will allow Tesco to go green and save money without making significant changes. Currently the newly opened import warehouse costs around eighty million dollars a year to operate, and the expectation is that the company will see a drop in the cost of running the warehouse and in the carbon footprint that is left by the operation. Tesco has a history of doing the right thing for the environment, and the company set and reached a goal to divert all of the waste produced in the UK operations from the landfills. Biomass fuel may help the company reach new eco friendly goals as well, and they will not be the only company who contracts with MGT Power for clean energy.
