The concept of a carbon tax would be to levy and enforce additional tax revenues on those that are the largest polluters in the country. These would include some of the biggest corporations and companies in America. Of course, these are also the ones that contributed the largest dollars in the various political races.
Other polls as well as supporting editorials are finally joining together to address our climate problems, which seem to be increasing every year on an exponential level. These include Slate Magazine, the Washington Post, the New York Times, Reuters, Bloomberg and the Associated Press. Despite the almost overwhelming support of a carbon tax, the political arms of the government seem to be unaware and uncaring, as Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary indicated that there is ‘no intention of proposing a carbon tax’ by the administration.

Make the big wheels that are trashing the earth pay the price. I think we should also list them on a website to show what level of pollution they are doing, what they aren’t doing about it, how many warnings and fines they have been subjected to and the personal contact information of the executives of the companies.
July 25th, 2013 at 8:42 pmOther countries have started programs like this and the bad press has made companies step up to the plate and fix their polluting ways. It’s time that America does the same thing. We don’t even know if we are buying the products of these organizations, because we don’t know who they are. I, for one, would boycott any company that insists on this kind of continued bad behavior.
July 24th, 2013 at 6:08 pmI am in favor of a carbon tax, but it sounds like the political wheel will make this really hard to enforce. Companies that pollute are more than happy to pay the small fines, because it’s less than what they have to invest to retrofit or do a complete overhaul. They also contribute a lot of money to political campaigns, so this could be something that is shelved, forever.
