Becoming the Leader in Clean Energy: The Story of First Solar
Jun 13
Being the first can be a great thing, but it also represents an incredible ability to take risks, where others would not dare.
First Solar has made their name in clean energy and can add a number of ‘firsts’ to their name:
First solar company to produce 1GW in a single year. First solar company to break the record of $1/watt cost barrier in manufacturing. First solar company to have implemented a PV module recycling program on a global scale. Holds the world record for CdTe (14.4%) thin film solar module and cell efficiency (18.7%). The company has invested in everything solar, including solar power plant development and is the only thin-film solar module company that is included in the Top Ten for solar module capacity sales in 2012.

I guess this should show Siemens a thing or two. They obviously had other corporate plans, but what got into their heads to back out of this deal? While we don’t know what has gone on behind closed doors, First Solar seems to be setting records and moving forward in the fast lane. I bet Desertec is happy that they are on board, and everyone is waiving goodbye to Siemens.
June 14th, 2013 at 3:25 pmThis is great news and something that U.S. companies really should pay attention to. When you partner with the best, have ideas that are out of the norm and keep your research staff in their little world, the outcome is bound to be good. Renewable energy is the real important area that we need to keep in our eyesight. Without companies like this, we can’t progress.
June 13th, 2013 at 9:19 pmTalk about a company that kept their eyes on their final goal! It sounds like they have achieved success and overcome outrageous odds, while remaining focused on their dream. We need more companies like First Solar in the world. They are definitely one that the investors should be aware of. Wouldn’t be surprised if their stock starts going through the roof.
