Despite the focus on green energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass, hydropower and geothermal, future oil exploration is being planned for spots all over the world. Future oil exploration is also being planned in the U.S. US oil reserves by state vary with Colorado heading the list of the states with the most untapped oil.
Even though green is now in vogue with everyone from Hollywood types to power players on Capitol Hill, the fact of the matter is, oil still reigns and will not be taken off its throne for some time. Some say money makes the world go 'round, but a more accurate statement might be that oil makes the world go 'round.
Large untapped oil reserves within the United States can be found in Alaska, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. Future oil exploration is also being planned for Iraq once the turbulent fighting ceases and the economy is stabilized.
Perhaps the most exciting news about untapped oil reserves comes from the state of Colorado. Scientists estimate that there could be as much as one trillion barrels of oil locked up in rocks there. That amount is three times more than the reserves in Saudi Arabia and alone could fuel the United States for approximately four centuries.
Untapped US oil reserves by state, such as in Alaska, which currently reside within a protected area of land, have been a hot topic of debate for years. Iraq is also a hot spot for future oil exploration as some experts say it has the third largest oil reserves in the world.
